Seeds & Leads ...

A Different Kind Of Networking EventDemonstrating creativity in its commitment to ensure a diverse supply base, PGS recently partnered with a pair of non-profit organizations to sponsor a unique networking opportunity. Led by Gwendolyn Turner, Manager of Supplier Diversity, Pfizer worked with the Women Presidents' Educational Organization (WPEO) and Junior Achievement (JA) to host an event called "Seeds & Leads" at Pfizer's corporate conference center.

Held on Thursday, March 7, from 8:30 am until 12 noon, Seeds & Leads was an event with a dual purpose:

Introduce members of WPEO to the value of participating in JA, an organization which Pfizer strongly supports, and give WPEO members a chance to introduce themselves to Pfizer's procurement professionals. After a warm welcome by Pfizer's David Shedlarz, WPEO members heard a brief presentation from a representative of JA. The presenter described for the audience of accomplished female executives the short- and long-term benefits of planting promising "Seeds" by mentoring a young person interested in a business career. Then, during the networking session that followed, Pfizer procurement professionals from PGS (Pfizer Global Sourcing), PGM (Pfizer Global Manufacturing), PPG (Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Group) and PGRD (Pfizer Global Research and Development) discussed current and future opportunities ("Leads") with WPEO members. Participants were invited to complete a Supplier Diversity Profile as well as being directed to appropriate contacts within Pfizer if their company's product or service was something not sourced through PGS.

Lisa Martin, Vice President of Global Sourcing, closed the meeting with a few brief remarks. She thanked the attendees, all of whom have led successful businesses in order to become members of WPEO, and encouraged them to think about "spreading their success" by giving Junior Achievement a closer look. Said Gwen Turner of the event which everyone judged a success, "We expect this to be the first of several innovative methods for introducing prospective new suppliers to Pfizer and vice versa."

Throughout the year, PGS will be tracking the progress of several suppliers who attended this event and will report the status in future articles. For questions, please contact Gwendolyn Turner, Supplier Diversity Manager.
